SYNOPSIS

Dick Powell's In The Mood For Jazz is an original comedy musical that has played the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival and Zoofest, as well as numerous residencies over the years. It is an immersive theatrical experience that blurs the line between scripted comedy and improvised realism while staying true to its commentary on white privilege, the patriarchy and culture obsessed with celebrity. Since the theatre is momentarily dark while we as Canadians adjust to a pandemic and post-pandemic society, Dick Powell and his associates would bring their characters to the web in a series of short videos exploring a narrative of quarantine and the changing nature of live performance.

CHAPTER TWO

Digital Dick & “The Dick Powell Stream”

Dick Powell is an immersive theatrical experience that blurs the line between scripted comedy and improvised realism while staying true to its commentary on white privilege, the patriarchy and a culture obsessed with celebrity. Dick Powell and his associates bring their characters to the web in this series of short videos exploring a narrative of quarantine and the changing nature of live performance. Our show builds on the 'anything can happen' spirit of entertainment. Missteps and malapropisms, flubs and mistakes are all part of the contrived essence of our performance. Bringing our theatrical background into a web-series, we see the act almost as a curation of our ideas and aesthetic. Prepare yourselves for a series of short episodes for a digital audience that regularly consume sketch and improv comedy, lovers of Jazz and live music.
